What is Sasol all about?
Sasol Limited is a South African integrated energy and chemical business headquartered in Sandton. The company was founded in 1950 in Sasolburg, South Africa, and was founded on processes created by German chemists and engineers in the early 1900s (see coal liquefaction). Sasol produces various liquid fuels, chemicals, and power and develops and commercializes technologies, including synthetic fuels technology.
The South African Government Employees Pension Fund, the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Limited (IDC), Allan Gray Investment Counsel, Coronation Fund Managers, Ninety One, and others are among the company’s major shareholders. Sasol has operations in 33 countries and employs 30,100 people worldwide. It is South Africa’s largest corporate taxpayer and its sixth-largest coal mining corporation.
