At times you need to make a SARS appointment booking before you can do so many things such as register for tax and any other best known to you. We have created a SARS appointment booking guide to help South African taxpayers (registered or unregistered) and also tax practitioners.

If you haven’t registered for tax with SARS, there are limited methods through which you can book an appointment but we would walk you through everything you need to know.

What you Need to Know Regarding SARS Appointment Booking

  • When booking indicate if you are making the booking as an;
    • Individual
    • Company
    • Trust
    • Registered Entity Representative
    • Tax Practitioner
    • Small Medium Micro Enterprise (SMME).
  • You can only request an appointment if you are a registered SARS taxpayer as all unregistered users are referred to the SARS eFiling website to register.
  • Before your appointment is finalized you will have to be verified as a registered individual taxpayer, company representative, or practitioner or you will not be able to book an appointment.
  • For the SARS system to effectively validate all your details, do ensure that all personal documents are captured exactly as registered with SARS.
  • If you are a foreigner, you will still be allowed to make a booking using your foreign passport/permit numbers. If you are a SA citizen, you must use your ID numbers to make a booking.
  • You need to provide a registered cell number and a valid email address.
  • Do not select a date not be more than 60 days in advance. The earliest booking you can make or receive is after 48 hours from the present.
  • There is only a one-time slot that may be selected for a booking.
  • Trying to schedule recurring appointments (block bookings) is not allowed.
  • Once an appointment has been confirmed and is successful, you will receive a formal confirmation by email or SMS, with a reference number (the reference number is very important.

How to book a SARS Appointment From Anywhere

The SARS appointment booking steps covers all types of taxpayers (both registered and unregistered).

If you haven’t registered for tax previously simply call SARS on 0800 00 7277. After calling, just dial the digit zero (0) and then, a SARS official will make an appointment for you. Please note that this is the only option you have if you haven’t registered for tax.

If you have registered for tax, you have more options. They include:

  • You can call the SARS Contact Centre on 0800 00 7277 and select option 0 (zero) just like we previously stated. An appointment will be booked on your behalf.
  • The second option is not available to tax practitioners but only registered taxpayers or representatives registered for Personal Income Tax (PIT). All you have to do is send an SMS to 47277 (iSARS). You should send it in this format:
    • Booking (Space) ID number/Passport number/ Asylum Seeker number.
  • The last option is to apply on the SARS official website here.

SARS Appointment Booking: What You Should Know On the Date of Your Appointment

On the date/day of your SARS appointment;

  • An assigned SARS agent will call you up and then assist you with whatever maybe you query.
  • You will be attended to at the time of your booking and if you come late, your appointment has been automatically been forfeited. A new appointment will have to be booked.
  • An agent has already been allocated to you due to whatever specific service you might need. If you require further assistance from another agent, you will need to make a new appointment.
  • Ensure that you must have submitted all relevant documents that are needed for your query. Submit the relevant documents electronically through the SARS Online Query System if your appointment is via video or telephone. This should be done before the date and time of your SARS appointment.

  • Then, select the “Cancel an appointment” option,
